First big news out of Cannes

Man my luck with this just keeps coming! De Niro has officially been announced as the head of the jury at Cannes this year. Hopefully I will be running into him... or at least serving him coffee. It would be so amazing if he ended up being one of the speakers I get to see this year at the pavilion. I still can't believe how lucky I am to be going on this trip. Now all I have to do is learn how to schmooze and I am all set... That or I will start having to use sex to climb the corporate ladder... maybe not.

Hectic Week

Last night officially wrapped up one of the more nutso weeks in my recent history. Work + Volunteering @ the Cinemania Film festival and trying to have a social life (Mumford and Sons concert + Friends + being interviewed for the Concordian) had left me tired and with and extremely sore back (which is actually getting me worried because it wont go away) so today is a chill day

Cinemania Montreal

Cinemania was awesome! Alot of early mornings (followed by late nights at the resto and then more early mornings) were kind of a killer, but they allowed me to really connect with the event organizers who were all super awesome ladies. I also allowed me to see a bunch of free films ( La Reine des Pommes (2/5), Bazar (3/5) Tout ce qui Brille (3/5) Sommeil Blanc (2/5), L'Enfance du Mal (3/5), Dumas (3/5), Illegal (4/5) and Potiche (4/5)) all in french with English subtitles. Having never volunteered at a film festival before I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my experience. I'm told not all festivals are as well presented and I totally believe it. i am therefore excited to volunteer again and total wary of it at the same time.

Next on the docket was the Mumford concert. As usual they were amazingly breath taking.
Super big props as well to their opening acts this time around, King Charles and Cadillac Sky.

Caddilac was alot of fun but I cant seem to find them online, and King Charles was actually kind of amazing

He played the entire set by himself with just a guitar, except for the opening song which he did accapella and it actually stopped my heart and made me do a double take while in line for coat check.

But unfortunate by the time Mumford came on the same problem arose as last time: the crowd SUCKED! I don't know what is wrong with people these days but they lack any kind of concert etiquette. Drunks yelling, girls squealing, people interrupting the band. it was so frakin' annoying.

Also the show lasted 3 and a half hours! Which was awesome yet very exhausting.

So good week, glad it's over, back to applying for jobs.

Two of my most favorite things!

The first pictures have surfaced from the production and I am INTO IT! No but seriously the would have to royally frak the dog to mess this one up for me!

Cowboys & Aliens

In other fun news the cast photo and confirmation of Joss directing and writing Avengers has officially come out of ComiCon, the only disappointment is no Mr. Nortan, but honestly, Mark Ruffalo suits me just fine! Man I wish I was there!

Adventure Weekend/Sunday

Another successful adventure Sunday this weekend with Tara and Gaël! Gaël had the brilliant idea of hitting up the beach and therefore we ventured out to park Jean Drapeau, spiked punch, sunscreen and chips in hand. Gaël built sandcastles, I read and Tara tanned (using the most bizarre tanning lotion I have ever seen, basically it induces an allergic reaction and apparently that's supposed to help you tan...)

The castle was mostly successful as was the tanning. The highlight of the day came when a couple of FULLY dressed tourists tried to go for a swim on the one part of the beach your not supposed to use and proceeded to basically have sex in the water. They were then kick out of the water by a lifeguard with washboard abs, so they headed to the picnic tables to strip off theirs clothes and finish there.

This weekend also marked the beginning of the Jazz Festival here in MTL. So Grace Tara and I headed out to the Festivities to watch opening act Brian Setzer and his orchestra light up the night. I was unfortunately too late to catch hometown favorites the Hellbound Hepcats play but I told that both of their shows were a riot. As expected the place was PACKED but we did manage to get within 100 feet of the stage and were able to better see the screens and tell that there were in fact people on stage. later that night Duke and Tristan met us for beer and we spent the rest of the night watching the show from there n their handy dandy TV screen.

So all in all it was a fun and cheap weekend! Which is good cause this week is moving week and it promises to be hell!

New Years Resolution

Kinda late right?
My resolution this year was to A) loose weight 2) to enjoy Montreal this summer, And enjoy it I have!Last night was my I popped my Fringe fest cherry with The New New Underground's show I Like Cowboys. I went into this knowing absolutely nothing about, only wanting to go to at least on Fringe show ( it was that or Francofolies, and I love Couer de Pirate but it was PISSING rain outside so I said FRAK IT!) and apparently I was a spoiled. They had a huge freakin' set, with a band! Who by the way rocked! It rekindled my urge to learn how to play the banjo. The show was also an hour and a half long, which I'm told is unusual for a Fringe show and I can understand why, it was a bit long. The beginning premise and introduction of characters were great, Pearl, being by far the most hilarious character, but as the play went on and her scenes dwindled so did my interest. This may be my fault, seeing as I went to a 10:30 showing, but I feel like the play had alot of great things going for it and didn't take advantage of many of them. All in all though i thoroughly enjoyed the show, it was nice to hang with friends.

So along with Nuit blanche, free Museum day, tam tam's (see the photo of Jimmy) and many other adventures, I think i'm doing pretty well in my attempt to enjoy MTL in the summer. This sunday, drinks on the Mclausan breweries terrase!
