It's Propaganda time!

True story, during my film history class in CEGEP, we were watching Triumph of the Will (most elaborate piece of nazi propaganda EVER!) as well as some Canadian war time films (also arguably propaganda) ones of my friends leaned over to me and whispered 'Whats propaganda?" Needless to say we weren't really friends after that

While I have no seen Vampires Suck or Bounty Hunter, I am assured they both suck(although I feel like in the case of Vampires Suck, it was more like done on purpose) I can definitely vouch for the crappiness of the other films.

Sex in the City 2 was the most Americentric crap I have seen in ages. It's trite, it's insensitive, it's offensive and IT'S NOT FUNNY. I'm not even a fan of the franchise and I really enjoyed the first movie. The second seems to be like the worst episode they ever made with the bigger budget and less graphic sex scenes.

The Last Airbender is so bad there are only 3 things that happen. Some one has a big explanatory speech, some one says "We have to go ___" and that is followed by a big fight scene. They then do the same thing over and over again until the film ends.
The problem with this film is they thought they were so cool, no one would notice how bad the story was. Well guess what, when you treat audiences like they are stupid they figure it out and get pissed! Also the cast should have been a mix of many races (as they are in the comics) instead of the white guys = good guys, non white guys = bad guys, like in this film. Critics accusing this film of "whitewashing" are not wrong. I wonder what Shyamalan was thinking, letting this casting go through. And for someone who usually has a nack for complex scripts this one seems to have been written by a monkey who signed Shyamalans name.

As for Eclipse lets just say the only way I was able to sit through this movie was by playing a drinking game against Taylor Lautners abs (ie everything he was shirtless I would drink). Needless to say I lost horribly and was so drunk I had to be helped out of the theater. My condolences got to the people who are working on the film who actually have talent (ie Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter), I hope the paycheck was worth it.
I also love that they have a category solely for sequels, prequels and remakes as well as a new category for worse use of 3D.

Any other films you think should have been nominated? Think any of this actors will pull Sandra's or Halle's and actually show up to accept their awards?

Women in Refridgerators

Women in Refrigerators (or WiR[1]) is a website that was created in 1999 by a group of comic book fans. The "Women in Refrigerators Syndrome" describes the use of the death or injury of a female comic book character as a plot device in a story starring a male comic book character. The website features a list of female comic book characters that had been injured, killed, or depowered as a plot device within various superhero comic books. Also, the site seeks to analyze why these plot devices are used disproportionately on female characters.
The term "Women in Refrigerators" was coined by writer Gail Simone as a name for the website in early 1999 during on-line discussions about comic books with friends. It refers to an incident in Green Lantern #54 (1994), written by Ron Marz, in which Kyle Rayner, the title hero, comes home to his apartment to find that his girlfriend, Alex DeWitt, had been killed by the villain Major Force and stuffed in a refrigerator.[2]

Simone and her friends then developed a list of fictional characters, superheroines who had been "killed, maimed or depowered."[3] The list was then circulated via the Internet over Bulletin Board System, e-mail and electronic mailing lists. Simone also e-mailed many comic book creators directly for their responses to the list.

The list is considered “infamous” in certain comic book fan circles.[4] Respondents often found different meanings to the list itself, though Simone maintained that her, "... simple point (had) always been: if you demolish most of the characters girls like, then girls won't read comics. That's it!"

Where was I in the 90's when this was happening? Oh yes, I was a closet feminist with Dial-up.

Some great points in this article. While some of these assumptions may seem unfair, I defiantly agree that if you kill off all of the good relateable female characters, females wont wanna read these. Times have changed, especially with the success of female centric comics, like Buffy etc, but this for sure still happens.

David Duchovny Says X-Files 3 is Being Written

French website TVMag caught up with David Duchovny and asked him for an update on the third "X-Files" movie, which the actor previously said would focus on December 2012, an important date in the franchise.

"It is being written," said the actor, adding: "We're waiting for the green light from 20th Century Fox, which is a little disappointed by the relatively poor reception of the second film. The mistake, in my opinion, is that the writers strayed too far from the roots of the series. Plus the film was released in the summer. The third movie will be much closer to what the fans are used to, which is government conspiracies, etc..."

Both Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have expressed interest in returning for the third film, which is likely aiming to hit theaters at the end of 2012 to match up with the rumored "end of the world" storyline.

This would make my lifetime!

I also agree with David Duchovany comment on the second film. It deviated a bit too much from the tone and themes of the series. I don't even think the story line was evengood enough to warrant Scully and Mulder even being implicated, why would they both come out of retirement because some women went missing (not that thats not a big deal it's just not really their thing) after all htey've been to and all they walked away from I just don't see the case presented in IWTB as being credible. I'm sure the release of Dark Knight also had something to do with it but it is a good point. Fight the Future, was a much better and successful film, released at the height of the shows success, it introduced new mysteries and solved old one, it was much more in tune with the original series. I'd also like to see Doggett and Reyes in the new film... scratch that... just Doggett. I was shocked that they weren't even mentioned in "I Want to Believe" (unless I'm not remembering it correctly), even though I hated Reyes, I loved Doggett and I feel like the storyline felt a little empty with no metion of the actual X-Files.

My suggestion for the new film is, bring back Doggett, make Duchovny shape up (seriously he look tied and fat in IWTB), bring back the X-Files, and solve some of those pesky loose ends that were left at the end of the series. Also BRING BACK KRYCEK! Best Villian EVER!

Overdue Photopost

Took these puppys in August and just plum forgot to post them. I was location scouting for Project Cross Match and I had to stop for gas. I've always loved the water tower, and the "Bar Ormstown/Bar Harem/Club O-Town" is the local dive/strip club, that everyone is scared to go into for far of the HIV and saggy strippers. It's basically used to launder money... or so everyone assumes. As far as I know it doesn't do any actual business. The barn is my uncles, and is very old and sorta falling apart.
As much as I some times try to stay away I do find inspiration in my home town. Now all I need to do is buy myself and actual camera s that I wont have to steal my moms all the time.

Sigh, If only this came in movie form

We never got his back story, and most likely never will... at least not on screen. I recently bought Wash's "Float out" oneshot, but haven't gotten around to readying it... I miss Serenity

I rediscovered this video the other day when SM and I did a late 90's early 00's video night.



I used to love EVE6 (Fun fact the band was named after a character on X-files, no wonder I loved them so much) and this vid reminds me why. If I ever do a vid it's totally gonna rip this one off. The vintage toys the dynamic camera movement's the lighting and xtreme close ups, the cut off bodies and faces, just all totally work for me. I wonder if he actually wore the camera on a harness (how would it turn like that) or what, but I love it. I'm a sucker for the self reflexiveness of it all. This is one of those instances where the video makes me like the song more then I did when I first heard it.
